Turning and fit
A rotating stone can change what fits
A rotating stone can take over the repeated task of turning a pizza, but it needs room for the pizza and any cookware to travel around the oven. A useful upgrade can therefore reduce the size or shapes you can cook.
Use the rotating limit, not the normal floor limit
| Oven | Normal stationary pizza | Matching optional rotating setup |
|---|---|---|
| Koda 2 | Up to 14 inches | Up to 12 inches |
| Koda 2 Pro | Up to 18 inches | Up to 16 inches |
| Koda 2 Max | Up to 20 inches, or specified smaller-pizza layouts | Up to 20 inches for the documented single-pizza layout |
The Koda 2 range is compatible with these model-specific accessories, but they are not the standard stones supplied in the base oven packages. Check the correct kit for the exact oven and the contents of any retailer bundle.
Decide what problem the motor needs to solve
If your usual pizza is smaller than the rotating limit and manual turning is the awkward part of the cook, a powered arrangement has a clear purpose. Ooni’s accessory offers continuous rotation and timed quarter-turns, with a wave sensor to start or stop it. The compatible temperature hub can interact with the rotating system too.
If the usual meal depends on a 14-inch pizza from the small Koda 2 or an 18-inch pizza from the Pro, keeping the stationary floor preserves that capacity. Paying for a motor that forces every dinner into a smaller size may create more cooking rounds than it saves effort.
The Max is different again. Its normal floor explicitly supports two 12-inch pizzas at once. The rotating accessory has a 20-inch single-pizza limit, but the manufacturer does not establish the two-12-inch rotating layout. Do not assume the same combined capacity merely because both features belong to the same oven family.
Check cookware by name and turning clearance
Ooni states that the Koda 2 rotating setup is incompatible with its cookware range. For the Pro rotating setup, it excludes the Dual Sided Grizzler Plate, the 13-by-10-inch Detroit Pan, and the medium and large Roasting Pans. For the Max rotating setup, it excludes the 17-by-12-inch Roasting Pan.
Those exclusions show why measuring only the bottom of a pan is insufficient. A handle, corner or rim can catch as the pan turns, even when the pan can sit on an ordinary stone. Use the exact oven-accessory compatibility information and inspect the full swept path of an approved pan before cooking. A stationary fit should not be carried into the rotating arrangement.
Allow for power, parts and cleaning
The rotating kit includes a motor, replacement stone arrangement, support rings, coupling and four-AA battery pack. Ooni estimates around seven hours of continuous turning per set of batteries. Plan fresh batteries for a long session and follow the exact installation instructions before heating the oven.
The separately published kit weight is not the assembled weight of the upgraded oven. Because the kit replaces some normal components, adding the two headline weights gives a misleading result. If lifting weight is a firm limit, ask for the finished configuration’s weight rather than treating an accessory number as a total.
Let the oven and stone cool completely before any removal or maintenance. Keep the cordierite free of water and chemical cleaners and follow the accessory’s care directions. Powered rotation reduces one cooking task; it does not remove flame adjustment, supervision or the need to check that the pizza is properly positioned.
