A useful fit for

Serve two 12-inch pizzas together or use independent flame settings in the shared chamber.

The main tradeoff

The 95 lb oven requires two-person handling; its rotating accessory does not establish the two-pizza layout.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I cook two 12-inch pizzas at once with independent burner settings?

Yes, on the standard stationary floor. The two separate gas dials control the left and right burners. The zones share one chamber.

Can I choose factory natural gas and cook a 20-inch pizza?

Yes. The US catalogue lists natural-gas UU-P 34500, and the stated maximum single-pizza size is 20 inches. Verify its exact installation guide before connecting.

Does adding the Rotating Stone confirm two 12-inch pizzas can rotate together?

No. The rotating accessory supports a single-pizza limit up to 20 inches; the two 12-inch layout is specified for the stationary floor. It is not carried across to the rotating setup.

The Ooni Koda 2 Max answers a particular hosting problem: one small pizza at a time can leave a table eating in shifts. Its standard 24-by-21-inch cooking area supports two 12-inch pizzas side by side, three 10-inch pizzas, or a single pizza up to 20 inches. Two separate gas controls also let you use the left and right sides differently.

That is a stronger reason to choose it than simply wanting the biggest oven. A published 95-pound weight, a broad body and a two-person lifting requirement make it a serious outdoor station. If you normally cook one 12-inch pizza for two people, the smaller Koda 2 can serve that meal with less equipment to position and store.

Two burners create options, and two cooking jobs

The left dial controls the left burner, and the right dial controls the right burner. The US propane manual explicitly permits cooking on one side, both sides at the same temperature, or both sides at different temperatures. That can accommodate different pizza styles or a pizza alongside an approved pan of food.

The zones share one open cooking chamber. Independent flame settings should not be confused with two sealed thermostatic ovens holding unrelated precise temperatures. You still need to watch browning, manage position and account for heat crossing the floor. Preparing and launching a second pizza also takes working space outside the oven. A second person helping with dough may be more useful than adding more toppings to an already crowded preparation table.

The headline 24-inch cooking area is not a promise of a 24-inch round pizza. Ooni states a maximum 20-inch pizza. Its two-12-inch capacity refers to the normal stationary floor; do not carry that capacity over automatically to an optional rotating setup.

Make the gas and installation choice first

The native US catalogue identifies propane UU-P2B100 and natural-gas UU-P34500 versions. Order for the supply you actually have. The propane version connects to the specified cylinder and supplied regulator arrangement; the natural-gas version is a separate factory configuration for a gas line. An oven's shared name does not make the fuel connections interchangeable.

The exact US 28mbar propane manual is linked from Ooni's Koda 2 Max getting-started page. Its instructions require an outdoor position, 40 inches of clearance from combustible construction at the back, sides and front, and no overhead construction. Confirm the matching natural-gas instructions and rating plate for that version rather than borrowing a propane regulator specification.

Ooni's published body measurements differ between its product and setup pages, and some mixed imperial and metric figures do not agree. For a tight installation, obtain a current dimensioned drawing and verify the footprint, controls and hose path before ordering furniture. The published weight of 95 pounds is already enough to rule out a light folding picnic table without a suitable load rating.

Temperature information is useful when its limits are clear

The US propane manual lists the Ooni Connect Digital Temperature Hub, two ambient-temperature cables and two food probes. That gives the Max a real supplied-equipment advantage over the Pro's one supplied food probe. The front display and Bluetooth connection help follow temperatures; they do not remotely turn the gas dials or remove the need to stay with the oven.

Stone temperature remains separate from air temperature. The Max manual calls for both burners at full power for at least 30 minutes of preheating before cooking, and recommends an infrared thermometer to check the stone surface. That is more useful for planning dinner than treating a short pizza-baking claim as the total time from a cold oven.

Weather and damp or cold stones can extend preparation. Before the first meal, there is also a separate 30-minute high-temperature seasoning process followed by complete cooling and a dry wipe. Set aside time to assemble, prepare and learn the oven before inviting a full table to wait for its first batch.

A rotating accessory changes how to use the floor

The optional Koda 2 Max Rotating Stone replaces the normal floor arrangement with a motorized stone and surrounding components. It includes a magnetic four-AA battery pack, offers continuous rotation or timed quarter-turns, and can start or stop through a wave sensor. The compatible Ooni Connect hub can also interact with the rotating accessory. Those controls operate the stone; they do not control the flame.

Ooni states that the Max rotating setup supports a pizza up to 20 inches. It does not establish that two separate 12-inch pizzas can rotate safely together, so choose the standard floor when that simultaneous serving pattern is essential. The manufacturer also excludes its 17-by-12-inch Roasting Pan from this rotating setup. A pan that fits a stationary floor may lack the clearance to turn.

Budget for the correct Max-specific kit and the additional equipment you will handle during cleaning and storage. Its separately published accessory weight cannot simply be added to the base weight: some ordinary stone components are being replaced. For a routine centered on two independent pizzas, the stationary arrangement is already the clearer choice.

Ownership involves large, heavy parts

The manual requires two people to lift, assemble and position the oven. Remove the stones before lifting and support the base rather than the upper shell. Place it on a strong suitable surface with room to use a peel, and let it cool fully before moving or covering it.

Only pizza and dry bread-based food go directly on the stationary stones. Other food needs approved cookware. Keep water, detergent and chemical cleaners away from the cordierite; use the prescribed high-heat cleaning operation, cool completely and brush away ash. Clean the cool visor and shell separately.

Choose the Max for a fixed outdoor cooking routine where two pizzas at once or independent burner control solves a recurring problem. Choose the Koda 2 Pro when an 18-inch single pizza and one supplied food probe are enough, or the Koda 2 when easier lifting and a 14-inch standard pizza matter more than simultaneous capacity.
