A practical comparison
HALO Versa 16: standalone oven or bundle?
HALO Versa 16: base oven or bundle?
The four observed Versa 16 configurations share one cooking appliance: HALO’s HZ-1004-ANA outdoor propane oven with a 16-inch rotating stone. Their practical difference is what arrives with the oven. Decide whether you need only the cooking chamber, storage protection, serving tools or a cart and cleanup set before treating one package as an upgrade to the oven itself.
Start with the place and the fuel
Every package uses the same outdoor-only gas oven. The standard arrangement is propane; the manufacturer lists a separate HZ-3001-A kit for natural-gas conversion. The stone’s AC adapter or optional batteries power its rotation, not the burners. A powered accessory does not make the Versa 16 an indoor electric oven. The owner’s manual calls for at least 10 feet from structures, combustible materials and another gas cylinder, and 25 feet from flammable liquid. If your cooking area cannot meet that envelope, no accessory bundle solves the location problem.
The oven body is about 22.44 by 24.59 by 14.84 inches and weighs 43.54 pounds before fuel. Those are oven dimensions, not a complete counter, cart or cylinder footprint. The Ultimate bundle does not publish a combined weight or assembled cart dimensions, so treat those requirements as unknown rather than using the oven-only number.
Choose by the extras you will actually use
- Versa 16 standalone: the oven itself for someone who already has a stable support, peels and storage protection.
- Versa 16 with Cover: the same oven with the fitted HZ-5004 weather-resistant cover for storage.
- Essential Pizza Bundle: the oven, cover and six-piece Cook + Serve set—two bamboo peels, a stainless peel, server handle, mezzaluna and tongs.
- Ultimate Pizza Oven Bundle: the oven, cover and serving tools plus a portable countertop cart and a two-piece stone-cleaning kit.
These are configurations, not four different heating systems. A cover protects a cool stored oven; it should not be left on during cooking. Peels and serving tools make setup easier but do not include dough or ingredients. The Ultimate’s cart adds a support choice, but its precise footprint and combined weight need separate confirmation if your storage or lifting limit is strict.
Understand the rotating stone and heat claims
HALO lists a 16-inch round cordierite stone and describes the oven as handling 16-inch pizzas. The motor runs on two D-cell batteries or the included AC adapter. It still needs a person to launch and retrieve the pizza. The manual says the turntable must run during preheat, and the quick-start instructions show stopping it for loading and removing. The rotation system reduces manual turning; it does not create a second cooking surface or a two-pizza station.
The product page gives a 21,100-BTU propane figure and reports ambient heat up to 950°F and stone temperature up to 750°F. Treat these as manufacturer performance claims. The manual identifies an on-oven heat indicator and a gas control knob, not a programmable temperature preset or a probe that measures a pizza. If a specific selectable setpoint or phone control is essential, this family does not establish it.
Care follows the oven, not the package price
The exact owner’s manual identifies model HZ-1004-ANA and says the oven is for outdoor use only. It warns about gas leaks, keeps the cylinder and fuel hose away from heat, and gives the clearance requirements above. The cordierite stone is fragile, can remain dangerously hot after cooking and should cool before cleaning. It is not dishwasher-safe; the guide says not to use soap or detergent. The Ultimate’s nylon brush and scraper do not override those care instructions.
For the most direct choice, list what is already in your kitchen and at the outdoor cooking spot. If you own a suitable table, cover and peels, the base oven avoids redundant gear. Add the cover if storage protection is the gap; choose Essential if you need a coordinated launch-and-serving kit; select Ultimate only when its cart and cleaning pieces fit your space and handling needs. In each case, first verify the outdoor station and whether propane or a separately converted natural-gas setup is workable.
