Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can this configuration fit an outdoor propane meal with powered rotation and a pizza up to 16 inches?
Yes. HALO lists the rotating 16-inch stone and the matched HZ-1004-ANA manual covers outdoor LP use. A 16-inch floor is one pizza at a time, not two 12-inch pies.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I see heat at the oven without requiring a phone temperature feed?
Yes. The matching manual parts list names local heat indicator HZ-1004-04. A phone feed or food probe is not documented.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I use natural gas if I accept purchasing the separately listed converter?
The current product page lists HZ-3001-A as a separate natural-gas conversion kit. The archived LP owner manual does not supply converter-specific setup or clearance, so the natural-gas plan remains qualified and its clearance is unknown.
Explore this need in the finder →The HALO Versa 16 is an outdoor propane oven for cooks who want a large rotating stone without turning every pie by hand. Its round cordierite floor is 16 inches, and HALO says the oven handles pizzas up to that diameter. The trade is a substantial gas appliance that needs a real outdoor station, propane handling and generous separation from nearby materials. It is not an indoor electric oven, and its rotating motor does not mean the oven heats electrically.
Two burners, one rotating cooking surface
The manufacturer describes a rear flame burner and a lower infrared burner, together rated at 21,100 BTU per hour on propane. HALO publishes up-to figures of 950°F ambient air and 750°F for the stone, with a roughly 12-minute warm-up and pizzas in about five minutes. Those are the maker’s performance statements, not independent measurements or selectable thermostat settings. The front heat indicator gives a local reading; it is not a food probe, a direct measurement of the stone’s center or a phone feed.
The distinction matters if you choose ovens by temperature. The manual gives a single gas control knob and an adjustable regulator setting, but the product does not publish a precise cooking-temperature range that the knob can hold. Use the gauge as a rough indication, learn the response of your own dough and toppings, and do not read a headline maximum as a promise that every part of a pizza will cook in the same time. A 16-inch capacity also describes one large pie, not two 12-inch pizzas at once.
The rotation needs power, but the burners do not
The motor turns the stone from an included AC adapter or two D-cell batteries; the batteries are not supplied. The ignition system uses its own AA cell. HALO’s quick-start sheet identifies the exact oven as model HZ-1004-ANA and shows the motor connection at assembly. The manual says to keep the rotating table on during preheating because heating with it switched off can damage the stone. Pause the turntable to launch or remove a pie, then resume it for the bake. This is a useful reduction in hands-on turning, not unattended cooking: you still place the pizza, watch it and decide when it is ready.
This separation between heat and rotation is an important questionnaire tradeoff. Propane is the cooking fuel; the adapter only powers a small motor and does not make this a countertop electric oven. The standard setup uses LP cylinders, including 1-pound canisters or a 20-pound tank with the supplied model-specific hose and regulator. HALO also lists a natural-gas conversion kit, HZ-3001-A, sold separately. A household gas line therefore adds a required purchase and its own instructions; do not connect a line by substituting parts or treating a propane manual as conversion instructions.
Measure the whole station before ordering
The oven itself is listed at 22.44 inches wide, 24.59 inches deep and 14.84 inches high, and weighs 43.54 pounds before fuel. Those measurements do not include a table, cylinder or room for a peel and open lid. The owner’s manual requires at least 10 feet from a structure, combustible material or another gas cylinder, and 25 feet from flammable liquid. That unusually broad setback can rule out a narrow balcony or a station close to a wall even when the oven physically fits on a counter. Check local requirements and the instructions supplied with your unit before settling on a location.
HALO describes the 16-inch stone as cordierite and its manual warns that it is fragile, remains hot long after cooking and should not experience sudden temperature changes. Let it cool completely before handling or cleaning; do not put it in a dishwasher or clean it with soap. The guide recommends clearing the clean-out tray and covering the oven during storage. These are practical routines, not signs that the stone is maintenance-free. The manual also warns against indoor operation and calls for gas-leak checks before use.
Who should choose this package?
Choose the standalone Versa 16 if the oven’s rotating stone and dual-burner layout are the main requirements and you already have a suitable table, peel and weather protection. If storage protection is the missing piece, the cover bundle keeps the same cooking core and adds a fitted cover. The Essential Pizza Bundle adds a six-piece prep-and-serving kit as well as the cover, while the Ultimate bundle adds a cart and stone-cleaning kit. None changes the oven into an indoor, wood-only or electric-heated model.
For people who want a smaller cooking station, cannot meet the outdoor setback, need an indoor appliance or require a documented setpoint, compare an oven built for that constraint rather than relying on the Versa’s maximum-temperature language. The Versa 16 makes most sense when you can give its gas burner, turning stone and clearance requirements a permanent, safe place to work.

Key details at a glance
| Fuel versions | The matched owner manual identifies standard LP propane with model-specific 1 lb and 20 lb regulator/hose assemblies; the product page lists 1 lb and 20 lb tanks. Natural-gas conversion kit HZ-3001-A is separately sold; its exact conversion setup/clearance instructions are not in the LP manual. |
|---|---|
| Maximum pizza on standard stationary floor | 16 in |
| Maximum pizza with matching optional rotating kit | 16 in |
| 12-inch pizzas at once on standard floor | 1 |
| Published standard-oven weight | 43.54 lb |
| Temperature hub supplied with oven | No |
| Food probes supplied with oven | 0 |
| Motorized stone supplied in base package | Yes |
| Manufacturer maximum temperature | 950 °F |
| Monitoring and controls | The exact parts list calls out local heat indicator HZ-1004-04 (an analog thermometer); no supplied food probe, phone temperature feed or remote flame control is documented. |
| Optional rotating setup | Motorized turntable rotates the 16-inch stone. It runs on two D-cell batteries (not included) or the supplied AC adapter; the separate igniter needs an AA cell. The adapter powers rotation, not oven heat. The manual says the turntable must remain on during preheat and should be stopped for launching/retrieving. |
| Space and measurement note | Oven-only dimensions 22.44 W × 24.59 D × 14.84 H inches and 43.54 lb. Bundle contents are separate: the Ultimate cart dimensions/combined weight are not reported. The dimensions are not installation clearances. |
| Stone care | The exact manual warns the cordierite stone is fragile and remains hot; cool fully before cleaning, avoid sudden thermal change, soap and dishwasher use, and clear the clean-out tray. Manual says outdoor use only and requires the stated gas safety clearances. |
| Cooking modes and limits | One gas control/adjustable LP regulator, no named pizza presets or exact controlled-temperature range published. HALO claims 950°F ambient/750°F stone, but these are not selectable setpoints. |
| Boost routine | No electrical heat Boost mode is documented; the rotation motor is a separate accessory drive. |
