Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I make a 16-inch propane pizza outdoors with the supplied oven and a conservative 42-pound weight limit?
Yes. The first-generation Koda 16 supports a 16-inch stationary-stone pizza and manual turning. The product description publishes 42 lb, so use that higher figure rather than the 40.1 lb specification-table value.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the first-generation Koda 16 support a required 17-inch pizza?
No. Its published stationary-stone limit is 16 inches. Compare a larger oven, such as the Koda 2 Pro, if that diameter is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I place the propane Koda 16 indoors because it is portable?
No. Its North American manual requires outdoor use. Portability does not grant garage, indoor or enclosed-balcony permission.
Explore this need in the finder →The first-generation Ooni Koda 16 is the original Koda for a larger single pizza. It keeps the gas dial but adds a 16-inch stone, an L-shaped burner and room to turn a pie. It is neither dual-zone nor self-rotating. Consider it if you will use the extra floor and have room for a larger outdoor propane oven.
What is distinct about this Koda
The exact US native listing is first-generation Koda 16, SKU UU-P0AB00, with one propane-tank variant. The North American manual names Koda 16 and model BG07-100A. Separate gas-line documents do not make this SKU a factory natural-gas model. Ooni says the L-shaped burner spreads heat across more of the floor; that claim does not remove the need to turn a pie.
Ooni lists a 15 mm cordierite stone, versus 10 mm on Koda 12. The floor supports up to 16 inches, with room to turn a pie or use an appropriate pan. The page claims 950°F in 20 minutes and a 60-second Neapolitan-style bake; these are maker claims, not independent measurements. A larger chamber takes more room and may need patience between successive pies.
The weight conflicts: a spec table says 40.1 lb unboxed, while descriptive copy says 42 lb. This review conservatively matches at 42. The 25 × 23.2 × 14.7-inch dimension sequence lacks reliable axis labels, so measure the unit and stand rather than use it as a clearance drawing. Folding legs help storage; the 40-plus-pound oven is not as easy to carry as Koda 12.
Propane, ignition and safe placement
The product page lists an oven, stone, hose and match holder. There is no cooking program, app thermometer, probe or independent burner setting: adjust the flame, watch the pizza and turn it with a peel. Ooni says a flame-safety device cuts gas if the flame goes out. Follow the manual for the actual hose and regulator; do not borrow directions from a conversion kit or newer Koda.
The manual requires outdoor use and warns against garages, overhead combustibles, extreme wind, moving the hot oven or leaving it unattended. It gives 24-inch side and 36-inch rear clearances, plus a broader 10-foot warning from structures or combustibles; these are not a single interchangeable number. Choose an open site and follow the whole manual and local rules. Keep the upright tank 25 inches away, inspect and leak-test fittings, route the hose away from hot metal and shut the cylinder off after cooking.
Where it earns its size—and where it does not
The 16-inch format matters when you make larger pies or value turning room. It can also fit a joint or loaf in a suitable pan, but this is not a closed-door, low-attention roaster. Launch, topping load and recovery affect results; the exposed flame still requires you to watch and turn the pizza.
For regular 10- or 12-inch pies and frequent carrying, compare Koda 12; its 12-inch limit is real, but its lower published weight makes storage easier. For newer gas hardware and monitoring, Koda 2 Pro supports an 18-inch pie and supplies a hub. For separate dishes at different temperatures, Koda 2 Max has two independent zones; Koda 16 has one manual control. Each changes footprint and supplied tools, not just the generation name.
Finder choices and limitations
Select outdoor propane, hand turning and a pizza up to 16 inches, then include earlier models. A 17-inch pie, indoor use, natural-gas line, phone monitoring, independent zones or powered turning should reject it. For lifting, use the conservative 42-pound figure. The matcher leaves a single clearance number unknown because the manual gives different directional warnings. Check model, generation and fuel with a seller.
Cordierite can crack if struck, dropped, cooled abruptly or exposed to frozen food while hot. Let it cool fully, keep water off hot stone and dry it thoroughly if washed. Protect it from harsh weather in long storage. Koda 16 is for one larger outdoor pizza at a time, without tending wood; a smaller, newer, multi-fuel or dual-zone design may suit other cooks.
