Model assessment · Gozney

Gozney Tread review

A 12-inch outdoor propane oven with a lateral burner, removable 12 mm cordierite floor and an included local oven thermometer; Gozney lists a 29.7 lb oven, while the manual's placement diagram gives 14 kg, so use 30.9 lb for a cautious handling limit.

Gozney Tread outdoor pizza oven in Olive finish
Exact U.S. native Olive SKU GTPOLUS1225; the Tread is a 12-inch propane oven. Image is a stylized studio cutout; photo-versus-render status is uncertain. Gozney
A useful fit for

A cook who wants one outdoor propane pizza no larger than Gozney's listed 12-inch class, values an included at-oven thermometer and can safely carry a roughly 31-pound oven to a level, stable support with the required open-air clearance with generous clearance. The color choice is Olive or Off Black; neither finish changes the cooking plan.

The main tradeoff

Tread is a transportable 12-inch, one-pizza oven rather than an indoor countertop appliance or a large family station. It is propane-only and hand-turned; the native base package does not document a phone monitor, food probe, remote flame control or motorized stone. Its product-page dimensions/weight conflict with manual placement figures, and the conservative match uses 30.9 lb, 19.9-in depth and 59.1-in clearance.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I cook one 12-inch propane pizza outdoors with a local oven thermometer and keep the oven near 31 pounds?

Yes, if the site allows the manual's conservative open-air placement. Tread is a 12-inch propane plan and the exact box overview names a thermometer; use the manual's 30.9-pound placement figure rather than the lower web listing for handling.

Can Tread support a required 14-inch pizza on its standard cooking floor?

No. Gozney lists Tread for up to a 12-inch pizza and its opening is 12.2 inches wide. For a 14-inch plan compare Arc or another exact model rated for that diameter.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I use Tread under an apartment balcony or indoors because it is portable?

No. The manual says outdoor use only, bans enclosed areas and says not to use under any apartment, balcony or deck; it also excludes boats and RV installations. Portability does not create indoor or sheltered-use approval.

Gozney Tread is a portable-shaped outdoor oven, but its exact U.S. cooking plan is straightforward: one pizza up to the listed 12-inch class, propane, a side-mounted rolling flame, a removable cordierite floor and manual turning. The current U.S. native product is 7983930966153. It has two color-only variants—Olive, SKU GTPOLUS1225, and Off Black, SKU GTPOBUS1225—so the color choice does not create a different fuel, capacity or control package.

Portable body, not a no-planning appliance

The product page lists 29.7 pounds and a 16.5-by-19.1-by-12.6-inch exterior. Its manual drawing instead shows 418 by 506 by 320 mm and a 14 kg (30.9 lb) load. Because those fit figures conflict, use the larger manual weight and 19.9-inch depth when checking your lift and table; add the cylinder, stand and prep tools separately.

The chamber is 12.2 inches wide, 15 deep and 5.9 high; the mouth is 12.2 wide by 3.35 high. Tread is a one-pizza, 12-inch plan with no powered turner documented. If you need 14 or 16 inches, compare Arc or Arc XL instead of stretching the capacity label.

The manual says to plan the route, use both top handles and cool to 115°F/45°C before moving or storage; the 20-minute minimum does not mean the oven is safe while hot.

One propane plan, with its safety footprint

The U.S./Canada manual identifies model GOZ-1893 as LPG propane, 12,500 BTU per hour at 11 inches water column. The page lists a 1.2-meter hose and regulator with the oven. A compatible gas cylinder is still needed, and the manual says it must stay upright outdoors, must not sit under the oven, and needs the specified regulator and leak-check procedure. The manual recommends a 9 kg bottle in its setup section but later troubleshooting names a 5 kg minimum; those statements conflict, so I do not advertise a smaller cylinder as a confirmed fit. Tread is not documented for natural gas, wood or pellets; the manual explicitly says not to burn wood.

Portability is not permission to use it in a garage, kitchen, enclosed porch, under an apartment/balcony/deck, on a boat or in/on an RV. Its manual calls for outdoor use, ventilation and a level, secure base. A placement diagram gives 12 inches at the back and sides and 3 feet 3 inches at the front from combustible construction, while the opening safety instructions say never operate within 1.5 meters of a structure, combustible material or other gas cylinder. Those directions are not interchangeable. The finder uses the more conservative 1.5-meter distance in every direction until Gozney or a local authority clarifies the installation; the separate two-inch intake gap around the base still applies. Keep the mouth away from direct wind and do not operate in high winds.

Active flame, useful local reading

Tread uses a manual gas dial and a lateral flame that rolls across the oven. The manual includes an ignition battery, safety instructions and a first-firing routine; this is an attended cook, not a set-and-forget thermostat. Gozney lists a maximum temperature of 950°F and describes a fast warm-up, but these are manufacturer specifications and estimates, not independent tests or a promise that every stone reaches the same temperature in a particular time. A narrower, hotter flame path also does not remove the need to watch the pizza and turn it by hand.

The exact page and manual box overview identify a thermometer. That supports a local oven-temperature reading, but it should not be confused with a stone-surface reading, an inserted food probe, a phone-connected monitor or remote gas control; none of those functions is documented for this base package. Someone who needs a local thermometer without an accessory purchase can include Tread, while an essential phone reading or remote flame adjustment should exclude it. The included thermometer is useful information, not an automatic cooking guarantee.

Care and the limits of the published instructions

The removable floor is 12 mm cordierite. Removability can make access easier, but it does not make the stone dishwasher-safe; Gozney does not document that. The manual warns against pouring water on the hot stone. When the oven is cold, it describes brushing or vacuuming loose debris and cleaning the exterior with non-abrasive materials, then keeping the oven covered from rain when it is fully cool. There is a documentation conflict around burn-off cleaning: the product page says above 950°F for three hours, while manual page 39 says above 650°F for three hours. Rather than present either as a guaranteed cleaning result, follow the current manual and manufacturer support guidance.

Who should choose Tread?

Tread suits someone who wants a 12-inch outdoor propane oven that can be carried with two hands to a tailgate or campsite, has a suitable level, stable support and can plan around a large safe perimeter. Its Olive and Off Black options are finish changes within one model. A strict 14-inch pizza, indoor use, natural gas, wood fire, a phone temperature feed, a motorized turner or a hard limit below about 31 pounds all point elsewhere. The safety and sizing details matter at least as much as the portability label.

If the smallest one-pizza propane setup matters more than a local thermometer or Tread's modular accessories, compare the Arc Lite and first-generation Ooni Koda 12. Arc Lite is listed around 26.5 pounds in its manual, although its box list does not document a thermometer. The Koda 12 is lighter still, but its published weight and dimensions are inconsistent and the reviewed base plan has no local thermometer. Arc gives up portability and rises to 14 inches and 47.5 pounds, but it includes a local display. Compare those exact tradeoffs in the portable 12-inch oven guide rather than buying for the color or a claimed heat-up time alone.

Key details at a glance

Fuel versionsExact native U.S. product 7983930966153 has Olive GTPOLUS1225 and Off Black GTPOBUS1225 propane-only color variants. U.S. manual model/type GOZ-1893 specifies propane/LPG at 11 in. W.C. and 12,500 BTU/h. Product page lists a 1.2 m hose and regulator; the compatible cylinder is separate. The manual's 9 kg recommended bottle on p25 conflicts with its p34 troubleshooting 5 kg minimum; do not present a smaller cylinder as a guaranteed match. No natural-gas or wood plan is documented.

Monitoring and controlsThe exact U.S. box list/manual overview names an included thermometer, so a local oven-temperature reading is supported. It is not a documented stone-surface sensor, food probe, phone monitor, or remote flame control. The included base thermometer is distinct from the larger Arc digital hub.
Optional rotating setupThe exact base configuration has a stationary removable stone and a manually controlled lateral flame, not an automatic rotator. Plan to load and hand-turn a single pizza; no powered Tread turner was documented.
Space and measurement noteThe current U.S. product page lists exterior W 16.5 x D 19.1 x H 12.6 in; its placement diagram shows 418 x 506 x 320 mm (about 16.5 x 19.9 x 12.6 in). Use the larger 19.9-in depth for a cautious station fit. The product page lists 29.7 lb, while the manual's placement page states 14 kg / 30.9 lb; use the higher 30.9-lb number for handling. Interior is 12.2 W x 15 D x 5.9 H in and mouth 12.2 W x 3.35 H in. Preserve the product-page/manual discrepancies rather than implying a verified measurement.
Stone careManual requires outdoor use only, competent setup, a secure level stable support, a clear base intake, and supervised operation; do not use in enclosed areas, under an apartment/balcony/deck, on a boat or in/on an RV. Do not use in high winds or move while hot. The manual says to cool to 115 F / 45 C before storing or moving; the exact page also requires at least 20 minutes. Keep the propane supply upright outdoors, never under the oven, and use specified regulator/hose and leak-check procedure. Avoid water on the hot cordierite; allow it to cool. Keep covered away from rain only when cool.
Cooking modes and limitsGozney lists a 12-inch pizza class, one pizza at a time, removable 12 mm cordierite and 950 F maximum. Its rapid heat-up statements are maker estimates rather than independent lab measurements. The product page self-clean text says above 950 F for three hours; manual p39 says above 650 F for three hours. Treat this as conflicting manufacturer guidance and follow the current manual/support direction rather than promising a cleaning result.
