Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the XL cook an 18-inch pizza outdoors on natural gas and show local air/stone temperatures with two food probes?
Yes, on the exact natural-gas setup and after licensed gas-fitter installation and leak testing.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Dome XL satisfy a required 20-inch pizza?
No. The manufacturer lists an 18-inch maximum single pizza; a 20-inch requirement is beyond the published floor size.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it use wood pellets as the fuel?
Pellets are not a documented Dome Gen 2 fuel; the maker lists propane, natural gas, wood and charcoal modes.
Explore this need in the finder →Gozney Dome XL (Gen 2) is the larger member of the Dome Gen 2 family: the U.S. maker lists a single 18-inch pizza, two 12-inch pizzas or three 10-inch pizzas on its floor. That extra working area is the reason to consider it over the regular Dome—not a different class of portable oven. The XL weighs 161 pounds before a stand or fuel supply and occupies a 37.2-by-27.4-inch exterior footprint. A sturdy permanent outdoor station and a plan for delivery and handling should come before choosing its finish or fuel.
What the XL size buys
The product page gives a 28.5-by-21.4-by-9.4-inch internal chamber and an 18.5-by-5.5-inch mouth, compared with the regular Dome’s 16-inch pizza listing. The XL’s 30 mm removable cordierite floor is listed for three 10-inch pizzas together, two 12-inch pies or one 18-inch pie. That is meaningful if you serve several people at once or regularly shape large dough. It does not establish three independent cooking zones: the pizzas share one heat source, floor and chamber, and turning remains a manual task. If you mostly bake one 12- or 14-inch pie, the smaller Dome may be easier to place and handle without giving up the family’s local temperature console or twin food probes.
The exterior is listed at 37.2 by 27.4 by 39.3 inches, and the oven alone at 161 pounds (178.1 pounds in its shipping package). Gozney recommends having four people available during unboxing. This is not a realistic choice for someone who must carry an oven to and from a small balcony or store it between cooks. The manual gives lifting guidance for cold handling; do not lift by the mouth or dock, and do not move it hot. The separate stand adds more weight and is not included in the oven-only figure.
Hybrid fire, with exact gas versions
The native U.S. product record shows Off Black and Bone finishes, each with a propane or natural-gas selection. Those are exact variants, not a license to convert one burner. The propane manual lists type GOZ-2509 at 11 inches water column and 36,850 BTU per hour; the U.S./Canada natural-gas manual lists the XL at 7 inches water column and 35,800 BTU per hour. Gozney requires a licensed gas fitter for the natural-gas installation and calls for a leak test. If you want a gas line, order the correct natural-gas model and follow that installation path rather than buying propane and assuming it can be converted later.
The Dome XL is also described by the maker for separate wood or charcoal fires. Gas and solid fuel are not simultaneous modes, and pellets are not documented. The included duct grate is required for a wood or charcoal fire; the optional Wood-Fire Control Kit adds an airflow-control module and rack. The module is not a second gas burner, and the manual says not to use it without the rack. Avoid treated or painted wood, lighting fluid and other unapproved fuels; ash can remain hot long after cooking.
Read the console for what it measures
The supplied battery-powered console displays air and stone temperatures and has two meat probes for food. This is a broader information set than a simple flame dial, but it is not phone monitoring or remote flame control. A display reading does not measure every point on the stone, and probes in food are not stone thermometers. Gozney lists a 950°F maximum; that is a maker specification, not an independent bench test or a forecast for a particular recipe. No named pizza presets or automatic rotation are documented, so if those are essential, compare a genuinely preset-driven electric model or a unit with a verified rotating system rather than treating temperature display as automation.
Check clearances and the real footprint
Both gas and solid-fuel plans are outdoor-only. The US/CA manual placement illustration calls for 30 cm (about 11.8 inches) to the sides and rear and 1 m (about 39.4 inches) at the front from combustible construction. Keep about two inches of open space around the dock base for intake air; that is separate from the directional combustible clearances. Place it on a level, stable, adequately rated surface, keep rain and strong wind in mind, and remain present while it operates. The footprint and tall flue need overhead as well as side-to-side thought. A generous open-air patio is more appropriate than a narrow balcony or a cooking spot close to siding.
When XL is worth the extra oven
Select the XL when the 18-inch single, two-12 or three-10 layout is a real serving need, and you have the lifting help, support and outdoor clearance. For one 16-inch pizza, the standard Dome Gen 2 is 24.3 pounds lighter and more compact; if you do not need its wood/charcoal modes, Gozney Arc XL is another 16-inch option at a much lower listed oven weight, though it is propane-only and lacks Dome’s twin food probes. The choice is space and operating plans, not an assertion that one will bake better.
In the finder, choose outdoor use, the exact gas or solid-fuel mode, your required maximum pizza size, and the probe or local-display features that matter. The XL should be removed for indoor use, a size above 18 inches, a pellet requirement, phone monitoring, remote flame control, or a weight ceiling below its oven-only published 161 pounds. A support table or stand is additional. Confirm the exact finish/fuel selection and the compatible accessories in the current U.S. listing. This is a source-based fit assessment—not a personal-use report, independent cooking test, price guarantee or availability promise.

NG: same type, 7 in. W.C., 35,800 BTU/h and licensed gas fitter required. Product/manual also support separate wood or charcoal fires with duct grate; do not combine solid fuel and gas or convert a configured appliance. Wood-Fire Control Kit is optional. Pellets are not documented. |

| Optional rotating setup | The standard cooking floor is stationary and the pizzas are manually managed/turned. No automatic rotating base or compatible motorized arrangement is documented for this exact product. |
| Space and measurement note | U.S. exact-page dimensions: outside 37.2 W x 27.4 D x 39.3 H in; interior 28.5 W x 21.4 D x 9.4 H in; mouth 18.5 W x 5.5 H in. Product page lists 161 lb oven-only and 178.1 lb packaged. The oven ships assembled; a separate stand/support and fuel are not included in the oven weight. Gozney recommends four people for unboxing/moving. The oven is not portable tabletop equipment. |
| Stone care | Outdoor use only and attended operation. Follow the exact current manual, level/stable support, directional combustible clearances (30 cm side/back and 1 m front), separate two-inch dock intake clearance, wind/rain precautions, fuel-specific installation and gradual cool-down. The manual says not to move hot, not to combine gas and solid fuels, not to use treated/painted or unapproved wood, and not to use the optional wood-fire module without its rack. Wood/charcoal ashes may remain hot after the oven has cooled. |
| Cooking modes and limits | Manufacturer lists a maximum of 950°F and a 30 mm removable cordierite floor. This is a published specification, not an independently measured chamber/stone temperature or recipe outcome. The console displays air and stone readings but does not imply an automatic thermostat. |
